It was a wonderful afternoon at the 25th Anniversary A.R. Ammons Poetry Contest Presentation Ceremony at Vineland Station on Sunday, May 6th at 2:30 p.m. With over 1,350 poems this year, the ceremony featured some truly amazing poems. It is always inspiring to hear the best of our youth displaying their talents. New for this year is that we have graduated levels of membership. In addition to our basic memberships for Individuals and Couples, we have added three levels that make it easier for you to donate to our cause. The Schoolmaster Level at $50, the Heritage Level at $100 and the Preservationist Level at $250 will help us in our organizational efforts and are also tax deductible under the IRS Code 501(c)(3).
Not convenient to be an active member, but still would like to support our programs? If so, then any donation you wish to make will be very much appreciated.
About the Reuben Brown Preservation Society
The Reuben Brown House Preservation Society, Inc. (RBHPS) is a non-profit organization with two main objectives: 1) to encourage and promote awareness, participation and appreciation of cultural, historic and fine arts in Columbus County and 2) to preserve the Reuben Brown House and other historic buildings for community use. The membership is open to any person or organization that supports the objectives of the group and who pays the annual dues. RBHPS began as the Whiteville Fine Arts Committee in the 1960’s, a well-respected, industrious group of women who passed on the mantle of supporting cultural efforts to the ever-widening membership of today. RBHPS sponsors a wide offering of programs and gatherings throughout the year which are free and open to the public It is the lead sponsor for the A.R. Ammons Poetry Contest since 2000 and for the county wide Historic Plaque Program. There is one General membership meeting annually. Read the 2017 Annual Report.
"We are not only history in the past, we are history in the making, We have something that no one can ever take away from us; we have something that if lost can never be replaced. It is our duty and pride to see that these things will never be lost." (Katherine Warren)
