Fundraiser Lunch April 12 for Reuben Brown House

The luncheon will take place on Wednesday, April 12 between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on the grounds of the Reuben Brown House, 128 E. Columbus St. , Whiteville.

12Apr17 fundraiser imageThe Reuben Brown House Preservation Society (RBHPS) has announced the "Inaugural Brown House Lunch,” a fundraiser to benefit the organization’s many projects and events. The luncheon will take place on Wednesday, April 12 between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on the grounds of the Reuben Brown House, 128 E. Columbus St. , Whiteville.

Tickets for the luncheon are $12 and include lunch, beverage and dessert. Guests will enjoy dining on the grounds with friends, but take out plates will be available.

Organizers are excited about this first-time event. According to RBHPS President Janice Young, "This will be an excellent way for area folks to enjoy a delicious meal, visit with friends and support a good cause.” The historic Reuben Brown House, maintained by the group, will also be open for guests to tour during the lunch.

The RBHPS is an all-volunteer organization with a variety of local projects and events. RBHPS supports fi ne arts and holds literary events throughout the year. This will be the 20th year it has organized the A.R. Ammons Poetry Contest involving approximately 700 schoolchildren from Columbus County.

A.R. "Archie” Ammons was a nationally acclaimed poet originally from Columbus County. RBHPS offers an exhibit annually at the Brown House as part of the NC Pecan Harvest Festival Home Tour. The organization encourages the preservation of historic buildings and sites throughout the county, including maintaining the 1830s home of Whiteville’s first schoolmaster, and sponsoring the Columbus County Historic Landmark Plaque program.
