Brown House Lunch is April 12

Lunch april 10 imageTablecloths will be fluttering and flowers will be blooming at the Inaugural Brown House Lunch on Wednesday, April 12. The fundraiser will benefit the Reuben Brown House Preservation Society’s many projects and events. It will take place on the grounds at the Reuben Brown House between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at 128 Columbus Street in Whiteville. Take-out plates will also be available with parking for the plates in front of the RBH.

A $12 ticket includes delicious homemade chicken salad, pasta salad, pimiento cheese sandwich, fresh fruit kabobs, brownies and beverage.

The historic Reuben Brown House and grounds, maintained by the group, will also be decorated for spring and open for guests to tour. Parking for guests will be adjacent to the Reuben Brown House and in the Westminster Church parking lot. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held at Vineland Station. The RBHPS is an all-volunteer 501(c)3 non-profit organization. RBHPS supports fine arts and holds literary events throughout the year. For over 20 years RBHPS has sponsored the annual A.R. Ammons Poetry Contest involving approximately 700 school children from all over Columbus County. A.R. "Archie” Ammons was a nationally acclaimed poet originally from Columbus County. RBHPS offers an exhibit annually at the Brown House as part of the N.C. Pecan Harvest Festival Home Tour.

The organization encourages the preservation of historic buildings and sites throughout the county, including maintaining the 1830s home of Whiteville’s first schoolmaster and sponsoring the Columbus County Historic Landmark Plaque program.
