After selling about 250 tickets to the event, they prepared sandwiches, salads and fruit kebabs, which they served with brownies to both carryout and eat-in guests. Outdoor tables decorated with geraniums created a "very inviting” setting, said first-time Reuben Brown House visitor Rebecca Ray, who attended with three friends from the county tax office.

Costumed guide Jean Williamson led visitors through the house, which was decorated by society members with fresh flower arrangements and provided with some new exhibits for the occasion.

"It was a lot of work to prepare, and we enjoyed it,” said volunteer Ann Pait as she collected tickets at the gate.

Society president Janice Young said, "The weather is perfect, and sometimes it’s good just to relax with friends.” Funds received from the meal will promote historical preservation projects in the area.
